Retrofit of the Watershed Bridge

McCloud, California, U.S.A.

In 1998, high-strength aramid fiber reinforcement panels (ARP) were used as part of the retrofit of this timber bridge which provides access to the McCloud watershed.

Six layers of 1.8-mm (0.07") thick ARP panels were bonded to 38-mm thick by 273-mm wide (1.50" x 10.75") high grade Douglas-fir end-jointed laminations to produce two 7.62-m (25') reinforced tension laminations.

The reinforced tension laminations were attached to the bottom surface of two existing 305-mm wide by 610-mm deep (12" x 24") by 7.62-m (25') long solid sawn girders with high-strength epoxy and 22-mm (7/8") diameter by 305-mm (12") long lag screws.
