Lakelands Covered Bridge

Plainfield, Illinois, U.S.A.

The 19.5-meter (64') long, 7.3-meter (24') wide, roadway bridge uses a combination of constructive and chemical protections to extend its life expectancy.  The covered roof protects the decking from the rain and snow.  The glulam girders underneath are treated to protect against the heavy humidity environment of the creek.

The wood used for the unreinforced glulam beams is Douglas fir.  The structure was erected in 1997.
